The CRRNJ Terminal was heavily modified, despite its being listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The modifications include installation of submarine exits to the Liberty Harbor and the Tidewater Basin, which are both open to the Hudson River. A high-speed rail connection between the New Jersey and Manhattan sides remains under construction and is expected to be completed by spring, 1996. The structures exterior has been maintained as an homage to its history. The Liberty State Park complex also includes the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island historic sites.
